The Illusion of Logical Certainty

Think about this for a second. Why do we say the โ€œlaws of logic?โ€ Where do these laws come from? It is both cyclical and tautological in the way we use it because a law does not describe a thing, it defines it. Laws establish meaning and provide the parameters for interpretation or expansion.

Yet, we say things such as the โ€œlaws of logicโ€. There is no logical truth that is a definition of itself. When we say something is logical, we say it as a way to describe our observation of aspects of reality that are consistent and sufficiently ubiquitous in our experience, to the point that they seem inviolate.

If you think about it, Gaussโ€™s Law for example, is not a definition. It was not prescribed; it is a description of how magnetic flux seems to work whenever we look at it.

The Law of Noncontradiction is technically not a law because it does not define either a contradiction or a non-contradiction. It was not prescribed either; rather, it is a reflection of our unspoken understanding that nobody can see A and NOT see A at the same time. It would be absurd.

So, when you say someone is logical as a way to describe the application of logic itself, it is like counting your teeth with your teeth. We are not logical because we learnt certain โ€˜laws of logicโ€™. Weโ€™re โ€˜logicalโ€™ because we intuitively understand that congruence is embedded in design, and that the world is designed.

I use logic because I donโ€™t know how not to use logic. I canโ€™t know that it will always work in the future, but since it has always worked in the past, I have no idea how to prepare for its possible failure.

Inversely, what this also means is that while I should take these โ€œlaws of logicโ€ seriously, I should not take them too literally. We have evolved with certain perception signals which define the world in boxes and rectangles that we have gotten used to and have accepted as โ€œscientificโ€, โ€œlogicalโ€, โ€œobjectiveโ€ but we must not forget that there are aspects of our reality that are waiting to be explored. They may not make sense immediately but over time they get accepted as part of the collective consciousness.

It is difficult to shape reality differently, but it is possible. And only those who can hold the world in their eyes, those who can see beyond words, labels, and symbols, can change the world.
